2010 Air Shows
Jacqueline Cochran Air Show 2010 (November 6, Thermal CA)
I was lucky enough to be down in California for work and have a day off on the day of the Jacqueline Cochran Air Show. This was my first time attending this air show, and while it is fairly small, I was impressed with the caliber and variety of performers. The F-16 demo takeoff was awesome, as the crowd line was set up much closer to the runway than most air shows. You wont find any pictures of that takeoff in here, because with a 300mm fixed lens, I could just fit the cockpit into the frame! Unfortunately I wasn't able to attend Aviation Nation 2010 over at Nellis AFB the next weekend, but I got my definitely got my air show fix in Thermal. Here is a list of the performers:
F-16 West F-86 A-10 West Golden Stars Skydiving
John Melby Silver Wings Wingwalking Melissa Pemberton
C-17 Doug Jardine Clay Lacy (Lear 24) T-28's P-51
F-8F Bearcat

Oregon International Air Show 2010 (August 20-22, Hillsboro OR)
This was my last big air show of the year (that is unless I happen to make it to Nellis AFB in November). It was a great show to end on, the performers were great, and for the second year in a row the weather provided many different lighting conditions. The Friday night show is really interesting, and something that sets this show apart from most. A cool thing to see was the water canon salute on Sunday to the F/A-18C pilot following his last demonstration. This show does cost money to get in to ($15 a day for advanced tickets), but the proceeds go to local charities. Here is a list of all the performers:
Patriots AV-8B Harrier F-15s F/A-18C West A-10 West Sons of Legends (Beach 18)
C-17 Matt Younkin Franklin's Flying Circus Julie Clark Bill Leff Will Allen
Smoke-n-Thunder Jet Car Classic Aircraft Museum (CL-13 Sabre, Mig 17, A-26) Mike Wiskus (Lucas Oil)
Renny Price Oregon Model Aerobatic Team Jim Vanek's Sport Copter Magneto Flight (EAA)

Abbotsford International Air Show 2010 (August 13-15, Abbotsford BC)
The Abbotsford Air Show has been a highlight the past few summers. This however was the first year I have gone that the weather was good. There was a large assortment of flying and static displays. One of two flying Lancaster bombers from WWII did passes with a BAE Hawk (Saturday) and a Corsair (Sunday). The USAF Thunderbirds and the CAF Snowbirds did their show each day. A list of all the performers is below:

Seattle Seafair Air Show 2010 (August 6-8, Seattle Washington)
The Seattle Seafair air show this year included a lineup of great aerobatic performers, some other various acts and demonstrations, and of course, the Blue Angles. The weather was by far the worst of all the years that I have attended (since 2007). The one good thing about the bad weather is that the Blue Angels performed their "flat" show, keeping the aircraft close to all the people watching from various locations around and on Lake Washington. I spent Friday at BFI watching the takeoffs and landings, Saturday on the Argosy lunch cruise on Lake Washington, and Sunday at Genesee Park. Click the "More Seattle Seafair Pictures" link below to see the rest of the 40 pictures I posted from the air show. Below is a list of the air show performers.

Fairchild AFB SkyFest 2010 (July 24-25, Spokane Washington)
This was my first visit to Fairchild AFB, and it was a great trip. Fairchild AFB SkyFest occurs every other year. On Thursday Bernardo and I joined 17 other members of the media on a Fairchild based KC-135R flight sent to refuel the Thunderbirds on their trip up to the show. Our flight (Earl 41) joined up with the Thunderbirds over north Nevada, and spent about 45 minutes refueling the 6 F-16s as we headed north back up to Washington. It was amazing to look out the cockpit window and see three F-16s in close formation just off the wingtip of the tanker. After the flight we got to go onto the hot ramp and meet Thunderbirds 6 and 12 and shot pictures of the aircraft that were going to fly the displays that weekend. We drove back to Seattle on Thursday night, just to return to Spokane on Friday evening in preparation for the air show on Saturday. The great weather (94 deg and sunny) brought out a good crowd on Saturday. The air show displayed a widely varying set of aircraft in the air and on static display. Below is a list of all the aircraft/teams that took to the air for the show.
SERE Parachute Demo KC-135R Smoke-n-Thunder Jet car B-2 Spirit Cascade Warbirds
C-17 Globmaster III P-51B B-25 Mig 17, Mig 15, F-86 Jacquie B. A-10
QF-4 UH-1N Huey Tim Weber PT-17 Stearman F/A-18F Hornet USAF Thunderbirds
It was a lot of driving (over 16 hours), but definitely worth it!

Joint Base Lewis-McChord Air Expo 2010 (July 17-18, Tacoma Washington)
This was the first air show at McChord since the Air Force base joined with Fort Lewis in early 2010. This air show occurs every two years. Both Saturday and Sunday started with overcast skies, and the organizers decided to delay the start of the air show until noon to let the clouds burn off. Once it got started, the air show was fast paced to get all of the acts in. There were some amazing performances at this show, I'll let the pictures speak for themselves because I could go on and on. The Patriots Jet Team was the headliners, and they put on the best show I have seen them do. This was the first big air show that I got to test out my new 300mm f4 L IS lens at. Being that I think these are some of the best shots I have taken at air shows, I am satisfied with the results. Below is a list of the performers.
